October 31, 2011 by Beau Davis

    Sept. 6, 1950 to Oct. 29th, 2011

James “Jim” Robert Davis was born in Chula Vista, CA, on Sept. 6, 1950, to parents Richard and Eleanor. Jim had three brothers (Rick, Steve, and Thomas). He grew up in the greater San Diego area where he met his wife, Kathrine “Kathy” Howell. After graduating from Hilltop High School, Jim and Kathy moved north so he could attend the University of California at Davis. After completing his studies at UC Davis, Jim and Kathy moved back to San Diego where he attended law school.

Jim and Kathy were married in Coronado, CA, on June 18, 1973. Shortly after they married, Jim and Kathy moved to Stayton, OR, and in July of 1977 had their first son Matthew “Matt.” A year later they moved back to San Diego and in February of 1980 had their second son, Beau.

In 1988, the family moved to Huntington Beach, CA, so Jim could be closer to his job at Plaza Savings. This has been his home ever since.

Jim has held a wide array of jobs since attending law school. From the trucking industry to residential and commercial loans. At the time of his passing he was Chairman and CEO of Southland EDC and SBA 504 intermediary and an at-large board member of NADCO “National Association of Development Companies.”

Jim died at home in the presence of family and friends on Oct. 29, 2011, due to complications from lung cancer. He will be remembered for many enduring qualities. He was loved and respected not only by his family and friends but by anyone who met him.

Just before he died, Jim requested a private wake. His immediate family is planning the event and more information will be available shortly.
